What was once a small fishing village has grown into the summer vacation destination of many Southerners.

If you live in the South, summer is not complete without a trip to the "Redneck Riviera". Boasting the whitest sand and most beautiful water in the world, the Emerald Coast has grown into a summer haven for Southerners. And whether its Orange Beach, Destin or 30A, this stretch of the gulf has its own southern character and culture for families.

“...the Emerald Coast has grown into a summer haven for Southerners.”

Loading up the car for a week-long trip to the beach has been a highlight for generations of families during the summer. And there is no better stretch of beach than the Emerald Coast in the southern panhandle of Florida. From Destin to Rosemary Beach, we love our annual junket to this wonderful Gulf Coast getaway.

WHERE TO STAY

Destiny by the Sea - this gated community offers a wonderful selection of larger homes that sit right on the beach. Especially if you are traveling with a large/extended family as we do, Destiny by the Sea has a wonderful selection of 4+ bedroom homes for weekly rental.

Rosemary Beach - established is 1995, Rosemary has first-class accommodations that are both chic and charming. And whether you want a room for 2 at the the Havana-inspired Pearl Hotel or a house for 20 right on the beach, Rosemary offers a small-town community feel with upscale restaurants and amenities.

WHERE TO EAT

Brotula's - we carve out one day of our trip to go deep-sea fishing, and Brotula's is the perfect spot to end your day on the water. The staff are always willing to cook your catch (blackened, grilled or fried). And a table on the deck overlooking the harbor cannot be beat.

Cafe Thirty-A - from an award-winning wine list to superb service, Cafe Thirty-A offers an excellent dining experience in a relaxed, casual atmosphere. Start with a martini and end with the apple bread pudding, you won't be disappointed.

The Crab Trap - has been a consistent beachside restaurant for both locals and visitors for years. The Crab Trap has a menu that offers a variety of options; and parents can enjoy a cocktail while the kids play on the beach.

Marina Cafe - a sensational menu, great service and wonderful views of the Destin Harbor make Marina Cafe the perfect choice for dinner.

WHAT TO DO

Deep Sea Fishing - whether you are a serious angler looking for that next big trophy fish or just want to take whole family out for the afternoon, Capt Justin Destin (yep, that's his name) charters his 55-foot boat, the Unreel.
